What is Chrestomathic.com?
Chrestomathic.com
provides the online supplement for the Today CME programs published by
Chrestomathic Press, Inc. The Online Editions of the Today publications
are provided as a service to Subscribers Only and supplement the printed
materials delivered by mail. A variety of other online services are also
provided to Subscribers Only. Many areas of the site are open to the ultrasound
community, including free online discussion groups at the Ultrasound Cafe
and access to papers posted in the online Ultrasound Library.
What services does the new site offer?
Our new site
introduces the services that our customers have said they most want: real-time
ultrasound studies can be played with the Online Editions of our CME materials,
free online discussion groups are hosted at the Ultrasound Cafe, and back
issues for all our publications are now available in the online Ultrasound
Library. New Online Services allow Subscribers Only to access a confidential
area of the new site. Subscribers can view and print the Online Editions
of our CME publications, take Personal Online Exams, and review a confidential
Personal Progress Report showing test scores and CME credits earned. For
a complete description of these services, please see the
Subscribers Only page.
Where can I find a list of the current issues included in my CME subscription?
All papers published in the current volume are listed on the
Subscribers Only page. Back issues are listed (a)
in chronological order on the individual publication pages and (b) in subject order on the
Ultrasound Library page.
Can
I earn CME credits with back issues?
No. CME credits
are only available with the purchase of a current annual subscription.
Each annual volume includes all-new papers and exams and provides 10 AMA
Category 1 credits per program. You can renew your subscription year after
year and continue to earn 10 credits every year. You can enroll in more
than one CME program and earn more than 10 credits per year.

What
are the system requirements for using Chrestomathic.com?
This web
site is optimized for Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player. If you
are using another browser and experience difficulty in viewing or using
any part of this site, please change your browser to Internet Explorer.
Acrobat Reader is required to access the PDF files used for the Online
Editions and all papers posted in the online Ultrasound Library.
Please download
and install the recommended software, choosing the most recent version
compatible with your computer system. PC and Mac versions of these programs
can be downloaded free from the following sites:
Internet

www.microsoft.com |
Acrobat

You should
also set your browser to Java enabled, JavaScript enabled, cookies enabled
background printing on, and your browser set to reload with each visit
to the page.
I
downloaded the recommended software, but I still cannot use all the features
in the site.
Your new
software may not have been installed correctly. Installation problems
may be due to any of the following:
a.
Are you using a computer at work? Many institutions prohibit the installation
of software by employees who do not have the proper authorization. Please
ask your Data Services department to install the software for you.
b.
Downloading and installing are generally two separate steps. Downloading
will place the software on your computer, but it must be installed before
it will run. Most downloaded software includes an Installer file. Run
the Installer and then restart the computer. Open the program and set
the Preferences that are required for your system and to meet your personal
needs.
c.
A browser plug-in may require manual installation. For example, to open
Acrobat PDF files in AOL, Macintosh users who have AOL 5.0 (not OS X compatible)
may need to drag a browser plug-in from the Acrobat Reader folder to the
AOL folder.
d.
If you still experience difficulty, check your manual or the software
manufacturer’s Technical Support services for assistance. In addition,
many software companies provide user forums and other support groups online;
look in these sites for answers to questions about specific software.
e.
This site was designed to work best with MS Internet Explorer version
6 or higher.
How
do I play real-time ultrasound studies online?
Many of the
Online Editions of our CME programs include real-time ultrasound studies.
Except for sample issues made available to the public, access to the Online
Editions is restricted to Subscribers Only. Check the Subscribers
Only page for a list of current issues; the availability and number
of movies included in each paper are shown in this list.
All the online
movies used in this site are formatted for compatibility with Windows
Media Player. You must be online to play the movies. Choose the Online
Edition you want to review; a PDF file with movie links will open. To
play a movie, click on a movie link; these links are shown in blue text
at the appropriate points in the discussion. Windows Media Player will
automatically load and begin to play the movie. Macintosh users will see
a download window and a status bar indicating the download time. Movie
files on this site are generally 200K to 300K and may take a minute or
two to load. The amount of time required to open a movie depends on your
particular computer system and method of online connection (telephone
modem connections are slower than cable modems).
For continuous
loop or repeat play, you must choose the appropriate setting in Windows
Media Player. You can enlarge or reduce the size of the movie display
by using a pull-down menu in Windows Media Player or by using the mouse
to click and drag the lower right corner of the movie player. To restore
the display to its original state, choose 100% from the pull-down menu.
Check your manual or Microsoft’s Technical Support services for assistance
if you have trouble using the player.
Some
of the images don’t display, or the Random Sample slide show takes too
long to open. What can I do to speed up the performance of this site?
You can improve
the performance of any site in any browser by adjusting the browser’s
cache settings. These items are usually found in the browser’s Preferences
menu; if you have trouble finding them, search the browser’s online help
manual for the word “cache.” The following settings are recommended:
File cache
size: 20 megabytes
Maximum folder
size: 20 megabytes
You should
also empty the cache. The more you use the Internet, the more frequently
you should empty the cache. This step alone will usually cause a significant
improvement in performance.
This site
was designed for Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.
Allow extra
time to download images if you are using a dial-up Internet service.
The
text on this site is too small. How can I enlarge it for easier reading?
Internet
Explorer provides a pull-down menu setting that enlarges or reduces the
size of the text display. It does not alter the size of the images. Choose
the text size that is most pleasing to you. Remember that resized text
will fit differently on the page and may not look exactly as the designer
intended.
This site
is designed for a screen resolution of 800x600 or higher.
I
opened a PDF file and it does not have a toolbar or menu bar. How do I
print the file?
Use the Print
command in your browser or the keyboard shortcut specific to your computer.
CAUTION:
With some systems, Acrobat uses a default setting that causes pages to
be printed smaller than the original document (about 10% smaller). Before
printing, check the Page Setup and Acrobat settings in the printer dialog
box. Make sure that BOTH of the following items are NOT checked: “shrink
oversized pages” and “expand small pages.” Verify that the paper size
is Letter (8.5 x 11), not Letter Small.
Can
I place a link to Chrestomathic.com from my web site?
Yes. Please
use http://www.chrestomathic.com/
Who
can I contact at Chrestomathic.com if I am having trouble visiting this
web site?
If you continue

specifying the type of computer and browser you have and what you were
attempting to do when you had the problem.

Yes, you
can take advantage of these discounts. You will need to enter a discount
code at the time you place your online order. The website may occasionally
offer discounts that are not found in the brochures.
Is
it safe to use my credit card on the Web site?
In addition
to the security benefit of Password authentication, we use Secure Server
Software (SSL) to maintain the safety and privacy of your information.
SSL is the industry standard and the most effective way to conduct secure
commerce transactions. It encrypts all of your personal information, including
credit card number, name, and address so that it cannot be read as the
information travels over the Internet. Whenever you see a URL that begins
with https:// and there is a small pad-lock icon in the bottom of your
browser, you are using SSL.
